Welcome to the Blog!

This blog is intended to be a forum for Writing Center tutors to share tutor experiences and discuss strategies to help undergraduate students recognize prejudices in their writing.

The blog comes out of our research presented at the 2008 International Writing Centers Association Conference Tutor Training poster session. While working with a student, have you encountered some sentences in his or her paper that sounded like prejudice? Prejudice is a preconceived opinion not based on reason or actual experience, and many kinds exist: racism, sexism, classism, ethnocentrism, and homophobia, among others.

How did you handle the situation? What advice can you give? Please share your experiences with us!
